Watershed conditions
Ping River Basin The Ping River is the sixth of 25 major river basins in Thailand. It originates in the Phi Pan Nam mountain range in Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province, flowing from north to south through Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces. It then traverses valleys before emptying into the Bhumibol Dam reservoir in Tak Province, joining the Wang River in Tak Province. It continues through Kamphaeng Phet Province before joining the Nan River at Pak Nam Pho in Nakhon Sawan Province. The river basin covers approximately 33,896 square kilometers, spanning five provinces, with a length of about 740 kilometers. The topography is predominantly mountainous. Each year, the river is influenced by tropical depressions originating from the South China Sea, resulting in heavy rainfall from July to September, with peak rainfall occurring from May to October.
